Where The Sky Touches The Seas- ANDAMAN (Part-I)

Andaman! The largest union territory of Incredible India. When we think or hear about Andaman, the only thing that clicks our mind is 'sea'. But there are many more unfold beauties in Andaman. Andaman is in Bay of Bengal situated between India and Myanmar. People of Andaman are called Andamanese. But Andaman is mainly the land of tribal. Port Blair is the capital and biggest city of Andaman. On the 1st day of our trip we went for sight seeing of the Port Blair city.

Cellular Jail

The most famous and historical place of Port Blair is The cellular jail. Cellular jail is also known by Kala pani . This jail has witnessed the struggle of the freedom fighters of India. It feels like each and every wall of this jail would describe the pain, torture and the struggle. In those days the prison was managed by the British especially to exile the political prisoners to this remote area as punishment.

Every cell of the cellular jail has also seen the bravery of our freedom fighters. These cells are really compact in size. There's no way where even the sun rays could enter the cells. The cells are pitch dark even in the day time. One cell was provided to only one person.

Even the windows of the cells are even covered so that no sun rays nor any other medium of lights could enter the cells.

The Cellular jail has 7 wings. Its structure is similar to the wheel of the bicycle. Each wing faces the opposite side of other wings so that no prisoner could see the other prisoner. The center of the wings use to be guarded by the jail guards.

As punishment they used to hang the prisoners here and throw their bodies into the sea. There are many unknown freedom fighters who gave their life for our country .

The cell of one of the most tortured prisoner in cellular jail is VINAYAK DAMODAR SAVARKAR who is also known as vir savarkar.

Museums

We then visited the museums.

There are many museums to visit in Andaman such as The Zonal Anthropological Museum Port Blair, Samudrika Marine Museums, Cellular jail museum and many more.

Corbyn's cove beach

Our next destination was the Corbyn's cove beach. One of the most dirtiest beach we visited so far. The beauty of the beach gets suppressed by the plastics, bottles and other dry and wet Garbage. Our experience as tourists were not so pleasant. The only good thing about this beach was we could see 'Snake Island' of Andaman from there.

Snake Island is an isolated island which we saw from corbyn's cave beach. The view was extremely beautiful. The island was not far from the beach. But we weren't allowed to go.

Sunset over the sea

“Scattered with poppies, the golden-green waves of the cornfields faded. The red sun seemed to tip one end of a pair of scales below the horizon, and simultaneously to lift an orange moon at the other. Only two days off the full, it rose behind a wood, swiftly losing its flush as it floated up, until the wheat loomed out of the twilight like a metallic and prickly sea.” Patrick Leigh Fermor, Between the Woods and the Water
