Our Trip To Meghalaya

Meghalaya is the region where we one gets bombarded with surprises. The first thing that comes to our mind are the frosty hills.

The term Meghalaya stands for "the abode of clouds" and that is actually true.

Shillong is also called the Scotland of India.

We planned a short trip to Meghalaya yet it turned out a memorable one.

The first two days of our trip we stayed in Guwahati (Assam) we'll definitely talk about it later.

On the third day we left for Shillong (Capital of Meghalaya). On our way to Shillong we decided to visit this beautiful lake called the Umiam Lake.

Umiam Lake is also known as Barapani. It is one of the major attractions of Meghalaya. The Umiam Lake is encircled by lush green East Khasi hills and gives one of the best panoramic sights.

It is also a popular destination for watersport and adventure facilities. Tourists visit this spot for kayaking, water cycling, scooting, and boating.

We enjoyed the speed boating and tube boating.

We also visited the Umiam Lake view point to get the panaromic view of the lake from a distance.

In the evening we reached Shillong and decided to go around the police bazar.

There are numerous shops and stalls of clothing, accessories, gift items, food stalls, live meat grilling and so much more. The shops opens in the morning around 10am and closes down at 8:30 to 9pm.

The best timing we thought was after 7:30 to 8pm in the evening when the shops gets ready to close down. You get everything in a cheaper rate.

The next morning was the day we were excited to visit to one of our bucket list places. This was Dawki.

At one side is the natural boundary of the jaintia hills and khasi hills and the other side is the Indo-Bangladesh boundary.

Dawki is famous for the trading of coal mines and lime stones. It is the trading centre of India and Bangladesh.

The main attraction of Dawki is the Umngot River which is the main talk of the town. It is no wrong to say that the Umngot river is one the cleanest rivers in India.

The water is crystal clear. The best month to visit this place is the month of November said by the locals.

In Dawki the best way to take a look around is hiring a boat. The natural waterfalls around the hills makes the place look more beautiful.

The other spot we visited the same day was the living Root bridge near Mawlynnong also known as the cleanest village of Asia.

These wonderful structures of the living root bridge makes it one of the major attractions of Meghalaya.

For those who have a time constraint the single root bridge is one of the easiest to reach.

It takes around 30 mins walk from Mawlynnong.

There is a second route from Nowhet village which takes 10-15 mins with a series of steps ( We choose the second route)

Once you visit this place you will get to see a combination of root bridge, the cleanest village asia mawlynnong and much more.

Meghalaya To be continued...
